Our Vision

Our vision is to prepare children to become self-reliant, responsible, and productive citizens. In partnership with families, we will engage children in the learning process with practical, real-world learning opportunities that will foster positive character development and enable them to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, and life-long learners.

Back to Basics

At the heart of the Arise Academy's philosophy is a “Back-to-Basics” approach to learning, with an emphasis on the three R's (Reading, wRiting, and aRithmetic) as well as a focus on life and career skills.

At Arise Academy we believe learning occurs best when the following conditions exist:

Engaged Learning - Children are engaged in active learning when they read, write, listen, and speak in a variety of settings to gather information and develop concepts important to everyday life. These concepts, together with basic foundational skills, form the foundation for all learning.

Problem Solving - Problem solving is fundamental to all curriculum areas. Children construct knowledge of the world as they recognize problems, formulate solutions, and arrive at conclusions.

Communication - Communication is central to learning to express ideas and understand the ideas of others. Clear communication also involves use of standard grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.

Collaboration - Collaboration is an important process in a democratic society. Learning is often a social process that requires children to value and work with others.

Integrated Program Materials

In today's information-based economy, individuals who prosper are fluent in several disciplines and are comfortable moving among them. Nearly all real-world work touches on multiple disciplines. Real world knowledge is not neatly divided into artificially constructed academic disciplines. Rather, most topics can be understood more deeply when viewed through multiple disciplinary lenses. For example, understanding of a series of events in history may be deepened through the reading of a related work of historical fiction and studying the geology of the region and how it shaped people’s lives.

At Arise Academy, tutors will coordinate program material planning to identify areas of overlap, where the standards in two or more content areas complement each other when taught simultaneously. In Language Arts, learners may read literature that supports topics in social studies and/or science, or science topics may be timed and developed to promote deeper understanding of a place or time being addressed in social studies.

Integrated program materials may also involve project-based learning, as the two approaches are highly compatible. Creativity, adaptability, critical reasoning, and collaboration are highly valued skills. Integrated study is an effective vehicle for building these skills, helping students develop nuanced understanding and a more complex understanding of interrelationships.
